Welcome To L.E.A.D. Institute!

Zumba Fundraiser, April 24 at 1:00-3:00pm
  • Community United Methodist Church
  • Dear Potential Member:

The L.E.A.D. Institute is a non-profit organization committed to providing services to deaf and hard of hearing individuals in the state of Missouri. This year marks our tenth year of service to the community. I am asking for your help by becoming a member and supporting the programs that we offer deaf individuals.

As a member, 100% of your membership is tax-deductible and will go directly to services for deaf and hard of hearing individuals. Some of those services include:

  • Free mental health services for deaf victims of crime and their families(services include deaf victims of domestic violence, child abuse, sexual assault and rape)
  • 24-hour crisis line services to deaf and hearing individuals
  • Advocacy for deaf individuals
  • Summer camp for deaf teens to educate them about substance abuse prevention and leadership skills

The L.E.A.D. Institute has lost over $35,000 in funding this fiscal year due to grant reductions as a result of budget cuts within state departments. This has left the agency with a huge gap in funding for our services to deaf individuals. As a result of this loss of funding, we are starting a grassroots campaign to encourage anyone and everyone to become a member of The L.E.A.D. Institute.

Your membership donation WILL make a difference! Please fill out the membership form and return it to The L.E.A.D. Institute.

If you have any questions, please call 573-445-5005 or contact me by e-mail at slogan@midamerica.net.

Thank you so much for supporting services for deaf individuals in Missouri.
    Sincerely,
    Stephanie Logan, M.B.A.
    Executive Director

The L.E.A.D. Institute (Leadership through Education and Advocacy for the Deaf) is a non-profit corporation of the state of Missouri. The L.E.A.D. Institute exists to provide individuals who are Deaf and Hard of Hearing with comprehensive, unified and continuous support by enhancing socio-emotional development, effective communication and leadership through education and research within the state of Missouri. The corporation is organized exclusively for the purposes within the meaning of Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code.

The L.E.A.D. Institute is currently funded through a variety of federal, state, foundation, and corporate sources.

Because the L.E.A.D. Institute is the only organization in the nation to provide statewide services to Deaf, Hard of Hearing, and late-deafened adult victims of domestic violence and sexual assault, L.E.A.D. has received a great deal of national support. The goal is to develop this program so that it may become a national model for other states to implement for their deaf victims of domestic violence and sexual assault.

The L.E.A.D. Institute has four targeted areas. Those areas include:

    1. Domestic violence, sexual assault and other violent crimes
    2. Drug and alcohol abuse, especially among Deaf and Hard of Hearing youth
    3. HIV/AIDS prevention and awareness, and
    4. 24-hours Crisis Line Services
The overall goal of all of these programs is to provide direct services to the Deaf community by providing culturally and linguistically appropriate services to meet their needs. A breakdown of these services are as follows by clicking above in Prev. Prog. on the menu.

Crisis intervention, counseling, advocacy, legal advocacy, and referral services to Deaf and Hard of Hearing victims of violent crimes.

Also trainings to victim service providers, law enforcement, prosecuting attorneys, etc. on Deaf culture and use of interpreters.

    All services are free.
